LOP Interview: Greg Craola Simkins

The well known California born surrealist painter Greg “Craola” Simkins started out like many young artists…  putting his artistic talents to the wall as a graffiti artist at the age of 18.  It wouldn’t be til years later that he would work for the likes of  Kidrobot and Strangeco in the toy world, and appear in galleries across the globe.

The more I spoke to Greg, the more I realized that his artistic talents were vast with a wide range and gift for adapting to a diverse array of challenges.  When  listening to the interview don’t be surprised to hear a modest approach from Greg when describing his talents,  how he handles life, and his art career.

To see Craola’s work is to be compared to watching a night sky filled with fire works.  Each page you flip in his new book, Drawn From The Well, brings out all the “ah’s”.  Each turn of the page is even more delightful than the one prior.  It is one of the most incredible art books I have laid my eyes on and that’s no lie.

LOP Interview: Luke Chueh

Back in December LOP Radio had the pleasure of meeting up with Luke Chueh at the Miami Art Basel.  If you are a vinyl toy collector or follow the art scene Luke is no stranger. Since roughly 2003 he has been deep into the underground art scene working his was into galleries in the LA area.

Frank and his assistant Dave, a proud member of the fish species, put on an amazing puppet show worthy of much applause.  One could say Frank’s the most memorable horse of the 21st Century…  and his creators Mark and Jennifer Gale are pretty cool to!

Here at LOP, Frank is the only horse we trust….  unless we are playing horse-shoes, in which case he has an unfair advantage!
